Upward Shoulder Lock Set-Up
DISCLAIMER: Please note that these techniques should only be practiced with a trained or certified instructor. Failure to do these moves correctly could result in serious bodily injury or in some cases, death!

1. Michael (blue) has side control on his opponent (white).  The opponent has the forearm across Michael's throat.     2. Michael looks towards his opponent's feet as he slides his left arm between his body and his opponent's forearm.

3. Michael then slides his hand up the side of his own face so the back of his hand is near his opponent's wrist.     4. Michael's left hand grabs his opponent's bicep near the elbow.

5. As Michael turns his left palm down in order to cup his opponent's wrist and push it down, he pulls on his opponent's bicep towards his opponent's hip.  It is extremely important to pull the bicep at the same time the wrist is being pushed down.     6. The reason Michael must pull on the bicep is because the opponent will obviously resist in order to prevent their wrist from being pushed down, however, the opponent cannot resist two directions at once.  As a result, it  will allow the arm to be easily pushed to the ground.

7.  The shoulder locks is applied.     8.  In the event that a person is very strong and attempts to lift their wrist and forearm off the ground in order to resist the submission, Michael puts his own forehead on the back of his own hand pushing his opponent's wrist on the ground.
