Leg Opening Sweep
DISCLAIMER: Please note that these techniques should only be practiced with a trained or certified instructor. Failure to do these moves correctly could result in serious bodily injury or in some cases, death!

1. The opponent (white) is in Michael's (blue) guard and is in the process of attempting to uncross Michael's legs.  The opponent makes the mistake of placing his left leg up as his right knee is in the middle of Michael's behind.  Now most of the opponent's weight is on his right side.     2. Michael's left hand grabs the opponent's right sleeve by the wrist and Michael's right hand grabs the opponent's right pant leg on the side of the knee.

3. Michael places his left foot on the opponent's hip and his right leg arcs upwards . His right leg is under the opponent's armpit and the foot is close to the opponent's neck.      4. This is the reverse angle of step #3 so you can see the placement of Michael's left foot.

5. While pulling upward with his arms, Michael pushes with the left foot on the hip and straightens his right leg down to the ground, knocking the opponent over.  Because of Michael's grip on the sleeve and pant, the opponent cannot catch his balance.  Once again, what makes this sweep easy is the fact that the opponent off balanced himself by initially lifitng his left leg up which placed most of his weight on his right side.     6. Michael establishes the mount position.
